Why Is My Pomeranian Suddenly Scared and Shaking?
A Pomeranian that suddenly becomes scared and starts shaking may have heard, felt or smelled something that is not obvious to you. Distant thunder, fireworks, construction work, alarms and low vibrations can frighten a dog before the owner notices the trigger.
Shaking can also be caused by cold, pain, illness, nausea, injury, poisoning or low blood sugar. It should not automatically be assumed to be anxiety, particularly if the behavior begins suddenly without an identifiable frightening event.
Look for other symptoms such as weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, unsteadiness, collapse or signs of pain. Contact your veterinarian promptly if any of these symptoms are present or the trembling continues after the suspected noise has stopped.
If fear is the likely cause, move your Pom to a quiet, secure indoor area and remain calm. Close curtains and windows, soften outside sounds with music or television and allow your dog to choose whether to hide or remain close to you.

Move your Pomeranian indoors and provide access to the quietest secure area of your home. Close windows, curtains and blinds, and use television, music, a fan or white noise to reduce the sound of thunder.
Allow your Pom to choose a comfortable hiding place. Some dogs prefer a covered crate, while others feel safer beneath furniture, inside a wardrobe or beside their owner. Never force a frightened dog into a crate if he does not already regard it as a safe resting place.
Remain calm and provide quiet reassurance if your Pomeranian seeks contact. It is acceptable to sit with, stroke or gently speak to a frightened dog. Comforting your Pom will not create the fear.
Do not take your Pomeranian outside during the storm unless necessary. If a toilet break is unavoidable, use a secure harness and leash because a sudden thunderclap may cause even a normally reliable dog to bolt.

Should You Comfort a Pomeranian Who Is Scared?
Yes, you can comfort a Pomeranian who is frightened. Fear is an emotional response, not naughty behavior, and calm reassurance will not teach your dog to be afraid.
If your Pom seeks contact, you may sit nearby, speak gently or provide quiet physical affection. If he prefers to hide, allow him to remain in his safe place rather than pulling him out or forcing interaction.
Keep your own behavior calm and predictable. Avoid frantic attention, but do not deliberately ignore a distressed Pomeranian because you have been told that comforting him will reinforce the fear.
Never scold, punish or use physical corrections. These responses can make the frightening event feel even more threatening and may damage your Pomeranian’s trust.

How Do You Create a Safe Space for an Anxious Pomeranian?
Choose a quiet indoor area away from windows and outside noise. Add your Pomeranian’s bed, blanket, water and a familiar toy, then use curtains and soft background sound to reduce flashes and bangs.
Allow your Pom to enter and leave freely. A crate can be used only if your dog already considers it a comfortable resting place. Never lock a panicking Pomeranian inside an unfamiliar space.
